Patrice Baumel

Patrice Bäumel, Beatport chart-topping producer and top-tier international DJ, has carved a unique path through the techno world, both in Europe and globally. He is known for his stellar integration within the Global Underground's league of compilers and mixers and for his beloved residency at Amsterdam's much-loved Trouw club, where he became a local hero. He has also released on pivotal labels like Kompakt, Get Physical, and Watergate. 

    Born in East Germany during the Communist era, Bäumel's early life was marked by its unique challenges. He experienced the complexities of growing up mixed race. Yet, his childhood is remembered fondly, especially due to the influence of his adoptive father, a music journalist who introduced him to a range of alternative and electronic sounds. Bands like Depeche Mode, Yello, The Cure, and Skinny Puppy became part of his early musical vocabulary.

With the fall of the Iron Curtain when he was 14, Bäumel's world expanded, leading to a greater cultural exposure. Self-motivated from an early age, he earned a scholarship at 16 to an exchange program in Utah, which he credits as a life-changing experience. At 17, he ventured into DJing, exploring a wide spectrum of club sounds, with European and Detroit techno holding a particular allure. 

Bäumel's professional and personal journey led him to Amsterdam, where, after some initial setbacks, he found success in the tech industry. Building a small home studio, he began crafting his own tracks and gradually gained a reputation through bar DJ gigs. It was not until his 2008 release, “Roar” on Get Physical, that his profile started gaining international traction. His residency at Trouw further solidified his status in the industry.

Despite having a significant imprint in the music scene, Patrice Bäumel still considers himself a work in progress, persistently driven to revolutionize club music and its culture.
