DJ Tiesto

Tijs Michiel Verwest, widely known as DJ Tiësto, is an iconic Dutch DJ and producer who revolutionized electronic music and redefined what it means to be a DJ. Born in Breda, Netherlands, on January 17, 1969, Tiësto began his career as a local DJ in his teens, working his way up from small clubs like The Spock in his hometown to the more prominent venues worldwide. 

It was in the late 1990s, particularly with his performance at the Inner City festival in 1999, that he established himself as a global phenomenon. Unlike other DJs of the time, Tiësto pioneered the idea that a DJ could be the main event in opposition to most people around that time, that offered a show and let the club or party producer do the marketing. 

He already had his team and his reputation, so Tiesto became as much a brand as he was a person, growing beyond what one Dj or one producer could do. 
This ended up captivating audiences not just with beats, but with transformative live experiences that made him the star of the show. He didn’t just mix music; he created an atmosphere, transforming electronic music from a niche genre into a respected, mainstream form of art. By co-founding his label Black Hole Recordings and producing groundbreaking compilations like Magik and In Search of Sunrise, Tiësto shaped the genre and set the stage for a new era in dance music.

His style, which began with trance and evolved to incorporate progressive and house elements, set a precedent for the DJ/producer hybrid, where the artist became a brand with a dedicated following. With residencies in Ibiza, collaborations with legends like Ferry Corsten, and residencies in Las Vegas, Tiësto’s influence is unmatched.
